We all grow up hearing that expecting a baby is a magical time filled with glowing moments, nursery planning, and supportive partners rubbing our swollen feet.
But for one local mum, those nine months were the absolute loneliest period of her life.
Taking to TikTok to share her deeply personal story, the mother-of-one opened up about enduring immense heartbreak, financial strain, and suspected infidelity during a time when she needed love the most.
Red flags and deleted messages
Just days after discovering she was expecting, she noticed her then-husband growing uncomfortably close to a female colleague.
The warning signs were hard to ignore. She caught him having video calls with this colleague and later realised he had deliberately deleted their WhatsApp chat history.
On a night when he claimed to be out with friends, she did not receive a single text from him. Yet, she discovered he somehow found the time to video-call the other woman.
The tipping point came when the colleague had a birthday cake delivered right to their doorstep.
When the pregnant wife confronted her husband and pleaded with him to set boundaries, his response was shocking. He defended the colleague, asking: "What if she quits? Who will suffer?" He even justified his actions by claiming it wouldn't "look nice" if people saw them together.
Working side hustles to foot her own gynae bills
Pregnancy is physically exhausting, but this mum had to push through it entirely on her own.
While her husband claimed he was struggling financially, she took full responsibility for paying her own gynae appointments. To make ends meet and provide for her baby, she held down her day job and took up a weekend side hustle.
She even spent her evenings helping her husband deliver durians, sometimes working until 11pm despite carrying a child.
The physical toll of a breaking heart
The immense stress eventually broke her body. She recalled fainting from the emotional strain and ending up at the emergency ward at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
During another collapse, she was admitted to KKH.
Lying in her hospital bed and hearing another mother nearby weeping over the loss of a baby, she held her own tummy and made a promise to her unborn son.
"Thank you for staying with me, my boy. We will live. We will get through this together," she told him.
Finding strength in motherhood
She admitted to quietly crying while eating alone, deeply envying other mothers who had loving, supportive partners by their sides.
"I wasn't strong. I was just left with no other choice but to be strong," she confessed.
Today, she is separated from her ex-husband and raising her three-year-old son. While she deeply regrets the marriage, she says she has never once regretted becoming a mum.
Her reason for baring her soul online is simple. She wants other mothers who are feeling exhausted, unsupported, and entirely alone in their own homes to know that they are seen, and that they will survive this too.
We have reached out to the original poster to credit her, but she has chosen to remain anonymous. We applaud her intent: to let other mums struggling through pregnancy or motherhood know they are not alone.
